ICL FutureTech Talk Series 3 - Integrating AI into Business Processes: How AI Can Enhance Business Analysis and Decision-Making
Wednesday, 24 September 2025 | ICL Education Centre

The third session of the ICL Graduate Business School FutureTech Talk Series brought another exciting opportunity for our Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS) students to engage with an industry expert and gain real-world insights into one of the most dynamic areas of modern business — Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The session, held on 24 September 2025 at the ICL Education Centre, featured guest speaker Mike Bui, Senior Business Analyst at IAG, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “Integrating AI into Business Processes: How AI Can Enhance Business Analysis and Decision-Making.”

Drawing on his extensive professional background in data analytics, business process management, and innovation, Mike discussed how Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the field of business analysis. He began by highlighting why AI has become critical for business decision-making, explaining its increasing relevance across industries and its growing role in shaping data-driven strategies. Mike emphasised that understanding AI is no longer optional for business analysts — it is becoming a core competency for those looking to remain effective and competitive in a technology-driven workplace.

During the session, Mike explored the evolving role of business analysts in an AI-powered environment, sharing his perspective on how automation and intelligent systems are changing the way analysts approach data, processes, and organisational problem-solving. He also spoke about the tangible benefits AI brings to the profession, such as improving accuracy in data interpretation, increasing efficiency in business processes, and enabling more strategic and predictive forms of analysis.

One of the highlights of the session was when Mike shared a real-world case study from his current work with Te Whatu Ora: Health New Zealand, where he demonstrated how AI technologies are being integrated into business and health processes to support more effective decision-making. His examples provided students with a clear view of how these emerging technologies are not just theoretical concepts, but practical tools that are actively transforming industries and public services in New Zealand.

Mike also addressed some of the challenges associated with adopting AI, such as data quality, ethical considerations, and the need for continuous learning among professionals. He offered strategies for mitigating these challenges and encouraged students to approach AI not as a replacement for human analysis, but as an enhancement that empowers professionals to deliver greater value and insight.

The talk concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which students had the chance to discuss real-world applications, career implications, and emerging trends in AI and business analysis. The conversation was lively and interactive, reflecting the students’ growing curiosity about how to integrate new technologies into their future careers.

Also present at the event were Undergraduate Programme Manager Premalatha Sampath and members of her academic team, who expressed their appreciation for Mike’s valuable contribution and for the opportunity this session provided students to bridge theory with practical, industry-based knowledge.

The FutureTech Talk Series continues to be an important platform at ICL Graduate Business School, connecting students with industry leaders who are shaping the future of technology and business. Through these sessions, students gain not only exposure to current innovations but also the inspiration and understanding they need to apply these ideas within their own professional paths.
