Recipient of the Te Huarau scholarship from TeachNZ
Paula Ray completed her PhD at the University of Auckland, on Digital Media and Communication. She got her last Master’s degree on International Communication from the University of Leeds, UK; her first Master’s was on Political Science from the University of Calcutta, India. She is also a registered teacher, and a recipient of the Te Huarau scholarship from TeachNZ. Before returning to academics, she was a senior journalist in India and the UK, a passion she currently pursues from NZ.
She was instrumental in the launch of two news dailies, Mumbai Mirror and Pune Mirror, in the latter, as the features editor, under the Times of India Group. Later, she became the London correspondent for several news publications in India, while working as the production manager for Credit Today, a credit industry B2B publication based in London. She currently writes for the BBC, Forbes magazine and Stuff.
An experienced communications and research specialist, for the past decade and half, she has been working in the tertiary sector in NZ, at the University of Auckland as well as Massey University. Currently, she is the Academic Director at ICL Graduate Business School, as well as a Supervisor for Masters and Doctoral Projects.
Digitally curious, especially about its impact on users, Paula’s research blends academic knowledge with industry experience. She is a published author – as an academic in widely recognised peer-reviewed journals and edited books, and as a journalist and a non-fiction writer.

Dr Jamali has over twenty years of experience in research and teaching. He teaches postgraduate business courses and supervises Master’s students. His expertise includes programme development and evaluation, moderation, and assessment design. Jamali’s research interests include curriculum, international students, motivation, behavioural psychology, leadership, and gender and cultural studies.
Jamali began his career as an intern teacher and has worked in various academic, research, training, and managerial roles in different countries. He has been involved in research projects in education, health, and SMEs funded by USAID, GTZ, and the World Bank.
Jamali’s extensive experience working with diverse workforces in different countries, multilingual skills, active participation in and chairing international conferences, and publications in reputed journals have given him a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and made him more positive, adaptable and self-assured in multicultural environments.
Jamali enjoys playing musical instruments, singing, reading, fishing, travelling, and volunteering for charities outside work.

Jay is an accomplished academic and organisational development expert with extensive international experience across academia, government, and industry. He holds a Doctorate in Education from Boston University, Massachusetts, specialising in Human Resource Education: Administration, Training, and Policy Studies.
Jay’s most recent role prior to joining ICL was as Organisational Transformation, Learning, and Knowledge Management Advisor to the USAID Mission for Ethiopia and Djibouti, where he led strategic initiatives in development and capacity-building. Before that, he served as Deputy then Acting Head of the School of Business at Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne and Sydney, Australia).
Over the years, Jay has held academic and leadership roles at several institutions worldwide, including Boston University, The Australian National University, Charles Sturt University, Swinburne University of Technology (Australia and Malaysia), Unitec Institute of Technology (Auckland, New Zealand), and IMT Dubai Business School, UAE.
Jay is the author of two books, two research monographs, and more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, edited book chapters, and conference papers. He has presented his research in China, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, and other international venues.
In addition to his academic career, Jay has held senior roles in federal government and the private sector, consulting to executive teams across the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. He is a recognised authority in organisational performance improvement, leadership development, team learning, and collaboration. His project experience spans mergers and acquisitions integration, organisational culture change, corporate restructuring, capacity-building, and leadership coaching.
Jay’s consultancy and research focus primarily on Organisational Development and Change. He has successfully applied his proven CM+ Roadmap to projects across the healthcare, hospitality, defence, engineering, and transportation sectors. He is particularly skilled in methodologies such as Appreciative Inquiry, Dialogue, Design Thinking, Synectics Creative Problem Solving, Positive Conflict, and ecosystem analysis.
Known for his inclusive and supportive leadership style, Jay is highly regarded by clients and colleagues alike. His insightful guidance and facilitation help individuals and teams turn challenges into opportunities, navigate complex change, and build resilient, high-performing organisations.

Ewen Mackenzie-Bowie has a Master’s in Children’s Literature from the University of Surrey and a BA (Hons) from the University of Stirling. He has over 30 years of experience in business schools, language schools and state education, in teaching, administration, sales and marketing.
